At 37, Paetongtarn Shinawatr becomes the third close family member to hold the position of prime minister, following her father Thaksin and her aunt Yingluck Shinawatra, Thailand’s first female prime minister. 

Paetongtarn, the youngest of Thaksin’s three children, is seen as the chosen one to carry forward her father's political legacy. 

Paetongtarn demonstrated dedication by actively campaigning across Thailand while pregnant with her second child, who was born just two weeks before the election. 

Paetongtarn Shinawatra continues the influential Shinawatra political dynasty, founded by her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted by a military coup in 2006. 

Before entering politics, Paetongtarn had a career as a business executive. 

She officially entered politics in 2021 when she was appointed as the chief of the Inclusion and Innovation Advisory Committee of the Pheu Thai Party. 

While now in power, Paetongtarn’s policies seem to align closely with those of her father and the Pheu Thai Party, focusing on economic measures like cash handouts and relaxed tourist entry rules. 

The Shinawatra family still faces challenges, with her aunt Yingluck remaining in exile due to legal issues, which could also pose risks for Paetongtarn's political future.
