Vishnu Deo Sai has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. Sai is not only a tribal leader but also a former MP, who is said to be the close confidant of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sai was elected the leader of the BJP legislative party in a meeting held in Raipur today.
MLA From Kunkuri Seat
Vishnu Deo Sai has won the election from the Kunkuri assembly seat in Jashpur district. He defeated the sitting Congress MLA Udit Minj by a margin of more than 25,000 votes. He has previously served as the state president twice, three times as a Lok Sabha MP, and once as a Union Minister of State.
Born In Undivided Madhya Pradesh
Visnu Deo Sai was born in undivided Madhya Pradesh. Sai completed his 11th grade in 1981 at Loyola Higher Secondary School, Kunkuri, affiliated with the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. He is married to Kaushalya Sav. A farmer and grassroots leader, Vishnu Dev Sai has risen to the top with his sheer hard work and grit.
Political Career
Vishnu Deo Sai began his political career in 1989 as the Panch of Bagiya Gram Panchayat. In 1990, he contested and won elections for the first time from the Tapkara assembly constituency in the district and became an MLA of undivided Madhya Pradesh.
Member of Parliament
From 1999 to 2014, he consecutively won three times as a Member of Parliament from the Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency. In 2014, during the Narendra Modi-led central government, he was appointed as the Central Minister of State for Steel.
Grassroot Leader
Sai also holds significant experience working within the organization. The party entrusted him with the responsibility of the state president twice in 2006 and 2020.
Close To Raman Singh
Sai hails from the influential Sahu (Teli) community which has a sizable presence in the Durg, Raipur and Bilaspur divisions. The 59-year-old leader is also close to former CM Raman Singh. Sai has been a member of the BJP National Working Committee.
