The arrival of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC in India marks a response to a key consumer demand for the Deutsche brand. This new-generation GLC showcases a design that harmonizes seamlessly with the brand's contemporary lineup. Notable updates at the front include a refreshed headlamp cluster, grille, and a more streamlined bonnet. Despite these changes, the face retains its recognizable association with the esteemed GLC nameplate.

The design cohesiveness of the GLC extends to the rear fascia as well. The tail lamps have adopted a sleeker profile, shedding some bulk for a more slender appearance. While the tail lamp setup presents a connected design, it's worth noting that the black insert doesn't illuminate. The rear windscreen gracefully slopes down, imparting a premium aesthetic to the overall design until you take note of faux exhaust vents.

The signature silhouette that we identify with the GLC name remains intact. However, in this new-generation iteration, the size has undergone notable changes. The new GLC is now 60 millimetres longer and 4 millimetres lower, contributing to its evolved dimensions. Furthermore, the wheelbase is now incremented by an additional 15 millimetres.

Folks at Mercedes-Benz have carved out more space in the trunk, totalling to 620 litres. Through clever engineering, the space saver and the battery pack have been relocated under the trunk, optimizing the available room. Additionally, folding down the second-row seats further maximizes the cargo space, reaching an impressive 1,250 litres.

The new-generation GLC rides on a set of 19-inch dual-tone wheels, aptly filling the wheel arches and complementing the exterior design seamlessly. powering these wheels is a choice between two powertrain options: a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.0L turbo-diesel. Both engine variants are coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 48V mild-hybrid system. We drove the latter.

The oil burner felt frugal and refined throughout our drive. The response was lively and not dull at any given point. The traceability and double-digit fuel efficiency remain a strong character of the diesel engine With over 800 km tank range, it indeed is a cruiser. The suspension too is supple and the steering feedback is quite engaging for a vehicle of this size and segment.

The dashboard layout is a huge departure from its predecessor. In fact, at this point, GLC started showcasing its C-Class-derived underpinnings. Although you won't complain about any, since all of it turns out to be beneficiary. The design looks bespoke and the cabin has a luxurious feel to it. The seats are comfortable, and the large portrait-style touchscreen adds modernity to the dashboard layout. The instrument cluster is an all-digital affair with the latest MBUX interface. Any complaints? No, whatsoever.

Sit on the rear seats, and you'll realise the increment in the wheelbase. The legroom has certainly been increased and the bench offers enough thigh support. There are sunblinds to cut down on UV rays and paparazzi. Also, the rear seat occupants get their own climate control settings and 2 type-c USB chargers.

The hike in dimensions is not just restricted to the length, wheelbase, and boot space. The sunroof too is colossal-sized. It is indeed larger in comparison to the last-gen Mercedes-Benz GLC, letting a lot of light enter the cabin, and thus, making it feel airy.

Talking of its price, it starts from Rs 73.5 lakh, ex-showroom. No doubt, it is slightly pricier than its rivals, but offers more value with its bespoke interior, competent powertrains, and comfortable ride.
