Neeraj was carrying a weight of 90 kilos at 12 years of age. It took nudging and urging from his family for him to hit the gym and attain a basic level of fitness.

 

 

 

Neeraj Chopra's first love was not javelin. As a kid, Neeraj used to enjoy spending time on the Volleyball court. 

Neeraj Chopra was being coached by Australia's Garry Calvert during his historic win at the U20 World Championships in Finland. Calvert passed away in July 2018 in Beijing due to a heart attack. Neeraj had been very pained at the happening and had tweeted about the loss. 

Former German javelin thrower Uwe Hohn is currently coaching Neeraj Chopra. Hohn is the only athlete to throw a javelin 100 metres or more. 

The 24-year-old Neeraj Chopra is studying BA second year at Kurukshetra University. Since his win in the U-20 championship in 2016, he had been appointed Naib Subedar in the Indian Army.
