Love conquers all! Japanese princess Mako to marry commoner fiance on October 26

Mako, the 29-year-old niece of Emperor Naruhitogot got engaged to her former college classmate Komuro, 29, in 2017. 

There will be no wedding ceremonies that accompany a royal marriage. “Their marriage is not fully supported by the public because of a financial dispute involving her future mother-in-law,” the palace announced Friday (October 1).

Mako will be leaving the royal family upon her marriage, as per customs. The princess will forgo a one-off payment of a million dollars to which she is entitled, Reuters cited media report as saying.

Princess Mako is suffering from a form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as per Kyodo news agency.

Mako's fiance Komuro was embroiled in controversy about a financial dispute between his mother and her former fiance. After the controversy led to public rebuke, their marriage got delayed for more than three years.

Following the controversy, in 2018 August, Komuro departed to attend law school in the United States, and only returned on Monday. The couple will register their marriage on October 26, the Imperial Household Agency said. They are likely to settle in New York later this year.
