Kathmandu: A school building constructed with the Indian financial assistance of Rs 23.6 million in mid-western Nepal was on Wednesday inaugurated by New Delhi`s envoy here.
The building was constructed in Nepalgun for Dhamboji Higher Secondary School, one of the oldest government- recognised educational institutes in mid-western Nepal.
Indian Ambassador Jayant Prasad inaugurated the building at a function in Nepalgunj in Banke District.
India had provided a grant of Nepali Rs 23.6 million for constructing the school building under the bilateral economic assistance. The new building will create better facilities for over 1000 students, half of them girls.
Addressing the function, Ambassador Prasad underlined the importance of the India-Nepal cooperation programme as a cornerstone of the relationship between the two countries.
He expressed hope that various development projects being implemented under the programme will help the people of Nepal in their strides towards peace and prosperity. In addition to the school building, three projects in Banke district have been completed with India`s assistance and work is underway on the fourth one -- Mahendra Multiple Campus -- in Nepalgunj.
Three ambulances, a school bus and a mobile eye care van have also been gifted by India for use in Banke district.
The Indian Ambassador also opened an eye check-up camp organised by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) in the school premises. India plans to provide assistance of Nepali Rs 4.6 crore to NNJS for its eye-care programme during 2011-2012.
