The 25-year-old pacer has not played for India since the 2015 World Cup. And he even returned back from the recent tour of Australia without playing a single match due to injury.

It shows that Indian national selectors have taken a risk by picking up Shami, as the Bengal cricketer had not proved his match fitness at the time of their squad announcement, on February 5.

Undoubtedly, he has been one of India's best pacers at the moment and has got the backing of limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But Shami's fitness is still a major concern.

Shami has a good chance to prove his fitness in the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Bangladesh from March 24 to April 6.

And if the seamer manages to keep himself fit ahead of the ICC World T20, to be held in India from March 8 to April 3, he can only strengthen the Indian bowling line up.
