Yuvraj Singh had just one net session, which is why I promoted myself ahead of him, says MS Dhoni

New Delhi: India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was immensely pleased with his side's victory against Australia in the first Twenty20 match held at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday.

The skipper who came out ahead of Yuvraj Singh, struck an unbeaten 11 runs of just three deliveries.

Dhoni cited that Suresh Raina batted well for his 41 runs and he promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh because the left-hander had just one net session after arriving from India recently.

"Raina batted well. He and Yuvi have had just one net session, which is why I promoted myself ahead of Yuvraj."

Yuvi took a splendid catch to dismiss Chris Lynn off Hardik Pandya's bowling. He also bowled a single over giving away 10 runs.

The skipper was impressed with the performance of debutant Hardik Pandya in Tuesday's match and he stated that the youngster can lend the side the much-needed stability if he can perform consistently.

\Pandya playing his debut match picked two wickest for 37 runs and executed the yorkers well after struggling initially in the first over.

"We bowled superbly. I felt once he went through that first over he would bowl much better. He was executing the yorkers well, he was bowling the wide ball well. Overall it was good effort and I think they can give us the stability we desperately need," Dhoni said after the match.

Meanwhile, home skipper Aaron Finch said his team's fielding was poor today and it did affect them badly.

"We let ourselves in the field today. And a great innings from Virat. He is hard to stop when he gets going. We executed well with the ball, but let ourselves down with the fielding.”

Finch who started off briskly also added that 170 would have been par score in that wicket.

“170 would have been a nice score. When we got our chance to bat, I slowed down a bit and cost ourselves a bit of momentum," he said.
