Now the couple could face a maximum 14 years imprisonment in addition to financial penalties if they are found guilty of the charges, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The girl had filed a case in September before the local police in which she accused the couple of torturing her.

The girl was found injured and crying on a street in Dhaka.

The pace bowler and his wife will be presented before a court on January 12 for a hearing on whether to take the case to trial, police officer Jahangir Hossain said.

Hossain, who absconded amidst accusations, was subsequently arrested before he was granted bail until March 31.

The fast bowler was already suspended from the national team by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
