New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur on Friday received a rude awakening to make from a section of Indian twiteratti for calling to restore the India-Pakistan cricket series.
Thakur, who is also a member of Lok Sabha from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, changed his stance on the contentious issue and opined that the India should resume bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan. Besides, the Bharatiya Janata Party MP also said that there's no need to pay heed to what is said on social media platforms.
Thakur, who is also president of the BJP’s Yuva Morcha, insisted that it was time diplomacy was not swayed by social media on any engagement with Pakistan.
But, little did he know that, as soon as his statement reached the general populace, #ShameOnAnuragThakur started trending on Twitter with many slamming Thakur.
Here are some of the tweets :
"No cricket diplomacy can resolve Pak hypocrisy. We don't play with enemies who kill our own. Selfgoal thakur."
"Need to engage, play Pak, social media not sense of nation:Anurag
What if I tell U dat social media is Voice of Nation?"
"Don't play with the mood of nation for personal gains."
It's worth taking note that, in August the 41-year-old himself tweeted that he is against resumption of cricket ties with Pakistan.
"Dawood (Ibrahim) in Karachi. NSA wants to meet separatists here. Are you really serious about peace and you expect we'll play cricket with you?," Thakur had tweeted.
