New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will on Monday hear a petition filed by leading social networking websites like Google and Facebook against the summons issued to them by a lower court. The lower court issued summons after a complaint was lodged against had 21 social networking websites for allegedly hosting ‘objectionable’ content.
Filed by journalist Vinay Rai, the petition seeks a direction from the court to remove objectionable content. Among the 21 websites, 12 are of foreign-based companies. The Centre had last week a Delhi court that there is sufficient material to proceed against 21 social networking sites, including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, for offences of promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration.
