Perumbavoor (Ker): Slaughtering of a cow near a temple here led to some tense moments in Perumbavoor town in Kerala`s Ernakulam district and a strong police team is camping in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
The incident took place yesterday when three persons allegedly slaughtered a cow in a compound just in front of Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, police said.
The three, belonging to a particular community, have been arrested and cases registered against them under sect 120b (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the IPC, police sources said today. Investigations are on to find out if they deliberately wanted to create trouble, police said.
Senior police officials immediately rushed to the place on hearing about the incident and brought the situation under control. Meanwhile, members of the Hindu community, who rushed to the temple premises, on hearing about the incident, attacked police vehicles. The glass panels of at least three Police vehicles were damaged, police said.
The BJP is observing a hartal in the area on Wednesday in protest against the slaughter. There were attempts to forcefully close down some shops, police said.
Rural SP, K P Philip, said the situation was well under control and police personnel from different Stations and Kalamassery Police Camp have been deployed in the town. PTI
