The Left parties on Wednesday took the Vajpayee government to task for its economic decisions on disinvestment and decontrol of movement of essential commodities, among others, saying these would lead to the destruction of livelihood of millions of people besides ruining the national economy.
The Communist Party of India, the CPI(M) and the CPI(M-L), in separate statements, said that the Centre was acting ruthlessly in the interests of the monoply bourgeoisie, big business houses and traders.
The CPI central secretariat said these crucial decisions had been taken just a couple of weeks before the budget session of Parliament. ''By now it has become the style of governance with the BJP-dispensation,'' it said.
The party said that the government's decision to disinvest profit making PSU's like IBP and VSNL was a virtual sell out. ''Selling assets to meet fiscal deficit and not for investment is a thoroughly wrong economic proposition,'' it said.

The CPI(M) said the government's decision on Voluntary Retirement Scheme(VRS) for government employees would further aggravate the already grim employment situation. More than 11 lakh employees are slated to lose their jobs, the party said.
