Kohli, 28, was also not happy with the eight-day given between the third and fourth Tests, when India England were clearly on the rope after suffering huge defeats at Visakhapatnam and Mohali.

“We didn’t ask for the gap, it was part of the schedule. Make sure when we go there, we also have eight days’ gap after three Tests and a 25-day gap between ODIs and Tests,” he told ahead of the fourth Test.

Alastair Cook & Co. will have a 25-day break at home for Christmas. And it's become a tradition for English teams to go back home after Test series, and return for the limited overs.

But visiting Indian teams hardly get this luxury. And in the last one year or so, Indian team have virtually spent on the road.

The skipper, however, admitted that the long break allowed Indian team to recuperate, to an extent.

“We didn’t ask for it, but seeing the long season ahead, it did us no harm. It actually helped us rest a bit, reflect on what we have done in the two games that we have won, and visualise again and come back even more fresh compared to the last two Test matches,” he added.

The penultimate Test of the five-match series started today at Mumbai.
