Several stalwarts of the game have thrown their weight behind Kohli's sensational form across formats, and his coach's thought were no different.

"Just wanted to remind Anderson that Virat has five Test hundreds in Australia which produces the fastest pitches," Sharma told PTI Bhasha referring to Kohli's 992 runs in 8 Tests.

Sharma further took a dig at Anderson and reminded him of his poor run in the ongoing series against India so far.

"This is a childish statement from Anderson. What has he done in the matches that he has played? He is also not getting wickets in India. He may be a good pacer but he has to also take wickets in India. Taking wickets in England can't be a parameter to term someone great," Sharma told.

Kohli scored a career-best 235 in Mumbai Test which India won by an innings and 36 runs. With the win, Kohli also became the first Indian Test skipper to win five series in a row.

While the cricket fraternity was bowled over after Kohli slammed his third double ton of the year, England bowling spearhead James Anderson triggered a controversy when he credited flat tracks for the Delhi batsman's run-scoring spree.

"I'm not sure he's changed," Anderson said. "I just think any technical deficiencies he's got aren't in play out here. The wickets just take that out of the equation.

"We had success against him in England, but the pace of the pitches over here just take any flaws he has out of the equation. There's not that pace in the wicket to get the nicks, like we did against him in England with a bit more movement. Pitches like this suit him down to the ground.
