Here are some of the key players to watch out for:

Faf du Plessis: He will be leading South Africa in the T20s and du Plessis is not new to Indian pitches. He plays a crucial role for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, where his job mostly is to resurrect the innings. However, the South African team management would want him to slightly change his approach and increase the pace at which he scores runs. How well South Africa perform in the series will depend a lot on du Plessis' fitness, since he recently recovered from a knee injury that kept him out of action for more than a month.

Imran Tahir: Playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, Tahir made a significant impact and he is aware of the Indian conditions. Ahead of the series, several Indian stalwarts have warned Indian batsmen about Tahir, who according to them would be a major threat for Kohli and his boys. Considering Indian batsmen's struggle against spinners in the last couple of years, Tahir will be South Africa's go-to man in the upcoming series.

Virat Kohli: His performance as the skipper of the team in whites has been phenomenal. Kohli added another feather to his cap by ending India's 22-year wait to register a series win on Sri Lankan soil as India recently sealed the three-match series 2-1 in their favour. While Kohli would be high on confidence with that win, he would know that his real Test would be against South Africa, a side which is known to perform better than most of the teams while playing abroad.

Ravichandran Ashwin: Of late, Ashwin has been India's most improved bowler. While he was struggling to find momentum a year back, trying too much variation, he seems to have settled now and bowled beautifully against the Angelo Mathews-side in Sri Lanka. He played a pivotal role in India's series win in Sri Lanka. While it is a pleasure to watch him bowl these days, Ashwin himself would be looking forward to putting another stupendous show against the Proteas.
