Indian Premier League: Sunil Gavaskar insists Team Rajkot to pick an Indian player as skipper
In fact, according to few media reports Raina is in the race to lead the side.
New Delhi: Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar on Tuesday insisted new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajkot to pick an Indian player to lead the side.
Gavaskar feels that it makes sense to have somebody as a skipper, who knows the local players well.
"In IPL it makes sense that team has an Indian captain. He knows local players, knows the weaknesses and strengths of local players. And you need an Indian coach if you make Brendon McCullum the captain," the former opener told NDTV.
Speculations are high that Suresh Raina, who has been brought by the franchise for Rs 12.5 crore is in the race with New Zealand skipper Brandon McCullum to lead the side.
In fact, according to few media reports, Raina is leading the race.
It's going to be a tough task for the team to pick between the two dynamic players.
On the other hand, Pune has no such confusion as they have Dhoni to lead the side, who they picked first for Rs 12.5 crore.
