Kapil Dev, VVS Laxman welcome day-night Test
First day-night Test match will be played at the Adelaide Oval between Australia and New Zealand on Friday.
New Delhi: Following India Test captain Virat Kohli's support, compatriots and cricketing stalwarts V.V.S. Laxman and Kapil Dev have also expressed delight on the eve of the commencement of first day-night Test match to be played at the Adelaide Oval between Trans-Tasmanian rivals Australia and New Zealand on Friday.
Laxman, who played 134 Tests for India scoring 8,781 runs, believes day-night Test matches are a boon for the fans who generally miss the entire day's play due to school, college or work.
"This is an exciting time for the cricketing fans as they can directly head to the stadiums or tune in on their TV sets to catch the action live," the 41-year-old, who is part of the Star Sports commentary panel for the Test, said on Thursday.
"Historically it has been proven time and again that a little modification in the way the game has been played traditionally has been successful. This is a revolution in the Test cricket format and I believe this is just the beginning of a new era for Test cricket."
Legendary all-rounder Kapil, who captained India to the 1983 World Cup glory, sees this development as a positive move.
"I am very happy to see the plans to play a day-night Test coming into action. I would personally like to welcome this move as I see a lot of positives from it. If this format clicks, we are in for another revolution in Test cricket history," said the former fast bowler.
The match will start at 9 a.m. (IST) on Friday and will be telecast live on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports HD 2.
