Even after starting his Test career with a bang in November 2013 against West Indies, when he scored 177 in his maiden innings, Rohit has lacked consistency in the longest format.

In 16 Tests, he has scored 896 runs at an average of 33.18.

However, while talking to CNN News 18, the Mumbaikar looked more focused towards making his spot permanent in Test side.

“I am looking forward to consolidate my position in the Test team. My goal is to make India No. 1 ranked team. But, there are lot of challenges ahead and it's a long process.

“However, skipper (Virat Kohli) and team members are going in the same direction, which is quite important.”

After the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, India are scheduled to tour West Indies to play a four-match Test series.

Rohit is also open to leading the Indian team, if given a chance.

“Who doesn't want to captain the Indian team, it's an honour. Whenever the opportunity arrives, I will take it. I want to see Indian cricket team grows in all three formats," added Rohit.
