Pranav Dhanawade: 15-year old scores unbeaten 652 to shatter 117-year-old record

New Delhi: Pranav Dhanawade on Monday entered the history books of cricket after breaking a 117-year-old record.

The 15-year-old scored an unbeaten 652 in the Bhandari Trophy, an Under-16 inter-school tournament, at Union Cricket Academy ground in Kalyan.

Incredibly, Pranav's knock came off just 199 balls and comprised of 82 boundaries and 42 sixes. 

In doing so, the youngster broke the record of AEJ Collins who scored an unbeaten 628 in a club match in England in 1899.

Pranav’s epic innings helped KC Gandhi School (Kalyan) put up a massive 956 for one against a listless Arya Gurukul School. 

The Kalyan lad, whose father is an auto rickshaw driver, has been coached by Mobin Sheikh from the tender age of five. 

He is a wicketkeeper-batsman and considers India's ODI skipper MS Dhoni as his idol.

"I have always been a big-hitter,” Pranav was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

“When I started I never thought about breaking the record. The focus was never that. I just played my natural game, which is to attack from the word go,” he further added.

 “I reached there as he was just reaching the milestone of 300. I was nervous throughout, but was just happy to see my son batting,” said his father Prashant who was working and had to rush to the ground after being told about his son's exploits.

“After reaching 300, my coach Harish Sharma told me to play on. I did not know of the world record, but we had the Indian record in mind,” commented Pranav with regards to the 546 scored by Mumbai's Prithvi Shaw at Azad Maidan in couple of years back.
