"Except for two moles on either side of the chest there are no other marks on the body. We have sent the body for post mortem," Ponramu said.

He said all railway stations between New Delhi and Chennai had been informed and asked to look out for missing person complaints.

"Police will also check the CCTV footage to see if anyone handled such a trunk on the platform," Ponramu said. "The body was about to decompose. Based on the condition of the body, death would have occurred around 12 hours prior to its discovery," Ponramu said.

The post-mortem report is expected in a day or two, he added.
