New Delhi: A scary accident took place in a Ranji Trophy match between Punjab and Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, when an Australian umpire John Ward suffered a head injury at NPR Cricket Ground.

The incident took place when Punjab batsman Brainder Sran powerful straight drive off spinner DT Chandrasekhar hit Ward on the back of his head.


The 53 year-old Australian tried to duck but couldn't manage to save himself. The impact of the powerful blow was such that he fell on the ground and became motionless for a few minutes.


Within minutes he was rushed to JCB hospital, where head scans were conducted.


According to hospital reports, apart from mild swelling, the umpire's condition is stable.


Later, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) also informed that “There is no threat to his life. He is doing fine and will be kept under observation until tomorrow (Wednesday).”
