The incident, which occurred at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium during Bengal's innings, was reported by the Times of India.

As Sreevats Goswami stepped out and blocked Vinay Kumar's delivery back to the bowler, the pacer picked the ball up on his follow through and fired it straight at the stumps.

The ball ricocheted off the bat, which was grounded inside the crease, to crash on to the stumps. With its impact, the ball displaced the grounded bat into the air.

The fielding side appealed and the left-hander was given the marching orders by the umpire.

Clearly infuriated by this mode of dismissal, the Bengal team had heated exchanges with the officials throughout the afternoon.

Though there was no reversal of the decision, many believed that Vinay Kumar and the Karnataka team should have withdrawn their appeal.
