Kolkata: Writers` Buildings, the state secretariat, has turned into a virtual fortress as part of heightened security ahead of the meeting of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on May 7.
The meeting will take place in the morning hours, a secretariat source told a news agency.
American Center officials were yet to confirm the time of Clinton`s arrival from Dhaka on Sunday and her programmes here. A high-level meeting was held today at which Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh, Commissioner of Kolkata Police RK Pachnanda were present.
Though there was no official briefing, reports said that the central gate entry point in the secretariat might be closed and the movement of scribes, officials and ministers restricted.
A metal detector was likely to be installed before the Press Corner. Two teams of the Federal Bureau of Investigation have already studied the security aspects of Writers` Buildings as also Raj Bhavan in the last two days.
As a prelude to Clinton`s visit, US Ambassador Nancy Powell, accompanied by US Consul-General Dean Thompson, had called on the chief minister on April 30.
