New Delhi: Soon after Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun was picked for the U-16 West Zone squad for the inter-zonal tournament, fans were left baffled as Pranav Dhanawade, who is the first cricketer to score over 1,000 runs in an innings, failed to make the cut.

The squad, announced by Baroda Cricket Association secretary Snehal Parikh, was selected by the All India Junior Selection Committee yesterday.

The meeting was presided over by its chairman Rakesh Parikh and the selection committee comprises coaches Tushar Arothe, Shantanu Sugwekar, Samir Dighe and J Krishna Rao.

Many fans were unhappy with exclusion of Dhanawade, who is the son of an auto-rickshaw driver.

Here is how the Twitterati reacted to the teenager's exclusion:

However, when Dhanawade slammed 1009 runs in June last year, he was a 15-year-old. According to his profile on the internet, his date of birth is May 13, 2000.

In that case, he wasn't eligible for the U-16 squad.
