New Delhi: Virat Kohli, India's star batsman became the fastest ever batsman to complete 6000 runs in One-Day Internationals. The batting maestro broke former West Indian legend Viv Richards's record. Kohli achieved the feat against Sri Lanka on Sunday, after he struck a well made 53 runs.

Kohli who needed 50 runs to complete the milestone, had 5950 runs in 135 innings. Viv Richards had managed to score 6000 runs in 141 innings.



Kolhi who is currently leading the Indian team in the absence of MS Dhoni, led the Indian side to a emphatic ODI series victory against Sri Lanka. India chased down Sri Lanka's target of 243 runs with six wickets to spare in the third ODI in Hyderabad on Sunday.


It was a great moment to achieve the feat for Kohli with his lady love, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, being present in the stands. Kohli sent a flying kiss gesture with the bat after completing the milestone.


India lead the 5-match series by a 3-0 margin. The two more ODIs are supposed to be played on 13th and 16th November respectively. The match also saw Shikhar Dhawan complete 2000 runs and in process becoming the fastest Indian to get to the landmark. Sri Lankan stalwart Mahela Jayawardene, also completed 12,000 runs and became the fifth batsman in the world to do so.


Former Sri Lankan batsman Russel Arnold congratulated Kohli for achieving the milestone. He expressed his views on social micro-blogging site, Twitter.
