New Delhi: England all-rounder Ben Stokes' stunning catch at long on to dismiss South African skipper AB de Villiers created a controversy during the first ODI on Wednesday.

Few South Africans questioned the legality of Stokes’ outstanding catch as replays suggested it had been taken in an area of the outfield where the boundary rope had been pushed back.


Athletic Stokes ran towards his right from long on to take the catch near the boundary rope with his right hand.


Though, before giving AB out, the field umpires appeared to check whether the catch was legitimate.


Eventually, England won the opening match by 37 runs (D/L method).
