New Delhi: Lieutenant General Narendra Singh Friday took over as the the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, succeeding Lt Gen J P Singh who is superannuating.
Lt Gen Narendra Singh will be the DCOAS, Planning and Systems and will be incharge of acquisitions for the Army, army officials said here. The Army has two Deputy Chiefs; the other mainly looks after training and information systems.
Singh till now was the Director General of Infantry where he was focusing on the F-INSAS program and the modernisation of the basic fighting force of the Army.
He has commanded the 12 Corps in the desert sector and also a Maratha Light Infantry battalion. He has vast experience in counter-insurgency operations. In another key appointment in the Army Chief`s Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) is that of Lt Gen Munish Sibal, who will be taking over as the Quarter Master General (QMG) at the Army Headquarters here, the officials said.
Lt Gen Sibal was commanding the Jalandhar-based 11 Corps prior to his latest appointment.
