Amritsar: North India is under the grip of an intense cold wave with temperature dipping to -1.2 deg C in the holy city of Amritsar on Monday.
Elsewhere in Punjab and Haryana, temperature hovered close to freezing point at many places forcing people to remain indoors during the festive weekend. Narnaul recorded a bone-chilling low of 0.5 deg C, down by five degrees, while the minimum at Ambala settled at 3 deg C, down by four notches.

Biting cold winds also swept Chandigarh, where the overnight temperature settled at 2.8 deg C, down by three notches. Patiala and Ludhiana in Punjab also reeled under severe cold conditions, recording identical minimums of 2.9 deg C each. Delhiites woke up to the coldest Christmas in five years on Sunday as the mercury plunged to the season`s lowest of 2.9 degrees Celsius.
Even on the national capital region of Delhi is experiencing cold wave condition with temperature at 2.9 degree Celsius on Christmas day.
