Aizawl: The ruling Congress retained power in the elections to the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) held on May three by bagging 15 of the 25 seats, counting of which was done yesterday.
State election commission officials said that the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) won three seats and its partner the Mara Democratic Front (MDF) won five seats while two seats went to independent candidates. The Congress legislature party of the MADC elected R. T Zachono as its leader and would soon be sworn-in as chief executive member (CEM) of the council while former Rajya Sabha member Hiphey would be the chairman of the council. PTI
