The deal will keep the 29-year-old defender at Stamford Bridge until 2019.

"I`m really pleased to commit my future to Chelsea and it`s great the club has put their faith in me," Cahill told the club website.

"I have achieved a lot here and I hope I can keep on learning, helping the team and lifting trophies over the next four years," the defender added.

Cahill, who joined Chelsea from Bolton in 2012, won the Champions League and FA Cup in his first season with the Blues.

He was also part of the Chelsea squad that won the Europa League in 2013 before adding the League Cup and Premier League titles to his collection last season.
