After the defending champions slumped to a shocking 3-1 defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge, the Portuguese said referees “are afraid to give decisions for Chelsea.“

Mourinho's remarks constitute improper conduct as they imply bias and bring the game into disrepute, said the FA in a statement.

The under-fire manager has until Thursday to respond to the charge.

Despite a poor start to the season, Chelsea management has thrown its weight behind Mourinho.
