Manchester United FC: Wayne Rooney becomes highest scorer for single club in EPL history
The United and England skipper overtook Arsenal`s Thierry Henry (175) to create a new record.
New Delhi: Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney on Sunday became the highest scorer of the most goals (176) for a single club in Premier League history.
The United and England skipper overtook Arsenal's Thierry Henry (175) to create a new record. Former Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is third on the list with 148 goals, while Frank Lampard had scored 147 for Chelsea.
Rooney scored the only goal in his side's win against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Rooney was perfectly placed to hook a powerful volley past keeper Simon Mignolet after 78 minutes when a header from Marouane Fellaini bounced off the crossbar.
He also is closing in on Sir Bobby Charlton to become the club's highest goal scorer.
Majestic Rooney has scored in four successive games for United for the first time since March 2012 and the win meant a lot for the club's hitman.
He stated after the game that it had been a long time since he scored the winning goal at Anfield.
Interestingly, Manchester United also netted their 100th goal at Anfield.
United also made sure their dominance against Liverpool stayed in tact. This was Van Gaal's fourth win on the trot against their rivals.
