Lakhimpur Kheri: Targeting Mayawati, senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday said a chief minister who could not find out during her 5-year rule that 25 ministers in her cabinet have indulged in corruption right under her nose and 100 of its MLAs were dishonest has no right to rule.
"Just on the eve of UP elections, the chief minister showed the doors to her 25 corrupt ministers to project herself as honest but it was high time for the people to show the door to BSP out of power", Alvi said. He alleged the BSP government during the last five years "has broken all records of corruption and right from top to bottom all have indulged and explored new ways of corruption".
Taking a dig at the statue construction-spree under the BSP rule, Alvi said the UP chief minister claimed she had her statues built in the parks as the BSP founder late Kanshi Ram had expressed so in his will.
"I have been a lawyer and want to know if anyone can write in his personal will to instal statues in public properties like parks", Alvi said adding satirically that "UP people were lucky that the will had not directed for installing statues in the Taj Mahal". Accompanied by union ministers Sachin Pilot and Jitin Prasada Alvi addressed election rallies at Barbar township of Mohammadi constituency and in Mitauli of Kasta assembly for Congress candidates Ashfaq-Ulla Khan and Banshi Dhar Raj.
Attacking Samajwadi Party, Alvi said its chief "Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed to safeguard the interests of Muslims but did not hesitate to join hands with Kalyan Singh who was responsible for the demolition of disputed Ayodhya structure".
"Ek Mandir kee baat karta tha aur ek masjid kee lekin jab vote kee baat ayi to dono ne haath mila liye (One talked of temple and the other of mosque but for the votes both joined hands)", Alvi said.
Sachin Pilot also accused the BSP and the SP governments in UP of neglecting the development of the state and catering to the needs of its people.
"The issues which party general secretary Rahul Gandhi has raised and brought them to main focus are very clear", Pilot said adding Gandhi was worried over the development of the people of UP. He was concerned to see that farmers, the labour class, the weaker sections are happy as it was their happiness and not the speeches or vote-politics which could lead UP to prosperity", he added.
Pilot asked the people to rise above caste and creed barriers and vote Congress to power.
