New Delhi: With many football pundits and fans against the decision of selecting Wayne Rooney in the 23-man EURO 2016 squad, the England captain has more or less failed to brush-off the criticism after another dismal performance against an inconsistent defensive unit of Slovakia.

After being subbed-on for Wilshere early in the second half, Rooney was expected to lead the Three Lions to victory and finish top of the group, but to Roy Hodgson's disappointment, the Manchester United man failed to make his presence felt in a crucial battle.


Many would argue that the 30-year-old is un-droppable in the England squad but with traditional midfielders like Ross Barkley, Jack Wilshere and Jordon Henderson waiting for more opportunities in the same role; Wayne Rooney could be soon seen warming the bench as the manager prepares his squad to face stronger teams like Germany, France and Spain in the knockout stages of the tournament.
