Jammu: CPI-M on Friday said the Cabinet Committee on Security should take a call on the issue of withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in consultation with the Jammu and Kashmir government. "It (AFSPA) should not be used as a political weapon or political gimmick," MY Tarigami, state CPI-M secretary told reporters.
He said it was CPI(M) which had written to the Prime Minister in 2007 for lifting AFSPA. Tarigami accused the National Conference-led coalition government of failing on all fronts during its three-year rule in the state.
"People are watching them. They should take corrective measures and look into their performance. Otherwise people will decide (their future)," he said.
