Di Maria, who is presently plying his trade for French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG), joined United in 2014 from Real for 59.7 million pounds. But he was unable to adjust to the English Premier League (EPL) and represented United for only one season.

"My intention was always to stay at Real Madrid," Di Maria was quoted as saying by goal.com on Thursday.

"I didn't have much relationship with (club president) Florentino Perez."

The 27-year-old said that PSG has a great chance to win the Champions League this year and added that he still respects Real Madrid.

Di Maria also said he won't celebrate if he scores when PSG meet Real on November 3 in a Champions League group game.

"PSG can win the Champions League. Players want the trophy and the club wants the trophy. We'll see a brave PSG at the Bernabeu," he said.

"I will not forget the fans of Real Madrid. That ovation in my last game was special and will always be grateful to the fans of Real Madrid," he said.

"If I score at Bernabeu I won't celebrate it. It's a matter of respect for those who were my fans and my partners."
