Ghaziabad: A special CBI court on Thursday rejected bail application of former DG Family Welfare of Uttar Pradesh SP Ram in the NRHM case while interim relief has been granted to Abhay Kumar Bajpai, Managing Director of state industrial corporation.
Bajpai was arrested by CBI from New Delhi on January 6 and is the first accused to be granted interim bail in the NRHM scam.
Special CBI judge AK Singh said the charges framed by CBI against Ram in connection with irregularities in utilisation of National Rural Health Mission funds are of very serious nature and he could influence witnesses in the case after being released on bail.
The judge denied him bail and said he will face trial from jail.
Singh, after hearing the arguments on the pleas of the two accused yesterday, had granted provisional bail to Bajpai but reserved the order for Ram.

Bajpai was, however, not released as the court order could not reach the jail.

CBI sources said that Bajpai may be arrested again after his release from Dasna jail here as he is an accused in three other cases related to the NRHM scam. Of the four cases against Bajpai, three have been registered in New Delhi and one in Lucknow. Interim bail was granted in only one case.
