Day scored 12.42 points average based on the rankings formula while Spieth scored 12.40.

It was for the second time that Day clinched the top spot. He had earlier secured the number one position in September that lasted for just a week following Spieth's win at Tour Championship.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy maintained his third spot with 10.92 points.

Day has won six tournaments this year, including the PGA Championship in August.
