Islamabad: Eight Pakistani workers of the US-based NGO American Refugee Committee who were kidnapped about two months ago have been released, an official of the organisation has said.
"Armed men had kidnapped our eight employees from Pishin district (of Balochistan province) some two months ago and they have now been released," Muhammad Shafiq, an official of ARC, told the media in Quetta yesterday. The released workers were being brought to Quetta, he said.
He refused to say whether the abducted persons were release after the payment of ransom.
Gunmen had kidnapped the ARC workers when they were travelling to provincial capital Quetta after delivering relief items to Afghan refugees in Pishin.
They were later taken to the lawless Waziristan tribal region and held hostage.
