108 children rescued from industrial units, 25 arrested
In a major crackdown, city police on Thursday rescued 108 children working in small scale industry units in Madanpura area of south Mumbai and arrested 25 persons for allegedly employing them.
Mumbai: In a major crackdown, city police on Thursday rescued 108 children working in small scale industry units in Madanpura area of south Mumbai and arrested 25 persons for allegedly employing them.
The 25 accused, including owners and managers of various units involved in bags, purse making and zari manufacturing, were booked under relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act, Child Labour Act and Indian Penal Code. The raid was conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Dhobale led Social Service Branch in co-ordination with civic body and NGOs.
The rescued children aged between 8 and 14 years were sent to remand home and the process of contacting their parents and relatives has been started.
