Garden City: A US congressman says authorities became aware of an al Qaeda propagandist killed last week in Yemen when he contacted other suspected terrorists outside New York in recent years.
Rep Peter King said that 25-year-old Samir Khan was not the investigator`s original target. King says Khan "came on their radar" between 2007 and 2009 when he was seen meeting with two terror suspects on Long Island. King says those two are still being watched. Newsday reported yesterday that Khan had lived on Long Island for about a decade before moving to North Carolina in 2004. Khan was killed last week in a US airstrike in Yemen. He was travelling with American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, described as a leader of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
