New Delhi: Delhi Police Friday claimed to have
smashed a drug syndicate with the arrest of two men allegedly with 2.5 kg of heroin and 1.5 kg of hashish worth around Rs three crore.
The two arrested men have been identified as Mohd Ashraf (40) and Mohd Alam (45).
Ashraf was the first to be arrested from central Delhi`s Jama Masjid on April three and his interrogation led to Alam, who was apprehended from Bhajanpura.
"Ashraf told us that he was part of a big inter-state racket being run by Alam and one Shirajuddin, both residents of Lucknow. He told us that he received heroin from Alam," DCP (Special Cell) Arun Kampani said. Alam was arrested when he came to Bhajanpura to meet Ashraf, who was already in police custody.
During interrogation, Kampani claimed, Alam told police that he was into drug peddling for last 15 years.
Alam alongwith his associate Noor Islam was earlier arrested for allegedly possessing 500 gm of heroine in 2001. After coming out from jail after 4 years, Alam allegedly restarted drug supplying activities. "Alam belongs to Barabanki where opium is grown in a legalised way. This opium is supplied to pharmaceutical and medicinal companies to prepare painkiller medicines. But vested elements siphon off part of opium and illegally use it in preparing heroin.
"Alam is expert in preparing heroine from opium. With the help of Shriajuddin he prepared heroin from opium and supply the same in Delhi and other parts of country. A team has been sent to Lucknow for further investigation," Kampani said.
