Imphal: Four persons, including two personnel of India Reserve Battalion (IRB), have been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Manipur, police said on Sunday. Bishenpur superintendent of police Radheshyam Singh said that the four persons had abducted the woman who was coming to Imphal from Tamenglong district on March 21 to sell vegetables, took her to an isolated place and allegedly raped her. The two IRB personnel were identified as Havildar Chungkham Ibomcha (37) and rifleman Khetrimayum Kenedy (36) and their friends --Salam Bijen (34) and Laikhuram Rojit (28), the police official said.
Several organisations including major social body, United Committee Manipur, have demanded strict punishment for the four persons, statements issued by them said.
The four reportedly confessed their crime before the police, the police claimed.
