Pune: India's chief pistol coach Syed Wajid Ali passed away at a hospital here after he suffered a severe heart attack in Pune's Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex during a national shooting championship.

Ali, 59, who hailed from Delhi and was currently the chief coach of the Indian team (pistol category), had come to the 60th National Shooting Championship Competition (NSCC), underway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex in Pune, as a chief range officer and jury.


"At around 8 PM yesterday he suffered a severe heart attack in the shooting range and was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital, where he was declared dead at around 9 PM," said


Pavan Singh, the convener of the competition and former coach of Indian team (rifle category).


Ali had come as a chief range officer and was here to conduct the championship, Singh said.


The deceased's family has been informed and they have reached Pune, he added.
