New Delhi: Ace athlete Dipa Karmakar made India proud on Sunday by becoming the first woman gymnast from the country to qualify for the Olympics.
She garnered a total score of 52.698 points in the Olympics qualifying event to book a berth for artistic gymnastics in the Rio Games, which are scheduled to start August 5.

Apart from being the first Indian woman, she will also be an Indian gymnast qualifying for the Olympics after 52 long years.
Karmakar hails from Agartala (Tripura) and started practicing gymnastics when she was 6 years old.
The 22-year-old comes from a sports family as her father, Dulal, is a weightlifting coach.
Dipa came into the limelight last year at Glasgow Commonwealth Games (CWG) by winning a bronze medal, making it India’s first-ever medal by a woman gymnast in the CWG.
