Doha, Dec 15: Star Korean swimmer Tae Hwan Park on Friday was declared the most valuable player of the 15th Asian games ahead of four other contenders, including Indian shooter Jaspal Rana. Park excelled in the games with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals and also set two games records in 200m and 1500 m.
He will receive a trophy and a cheque worth USD 50,000. The cheque would be given to the Korean Olympic Committee for support and training of the athlete.
Other than Rana, the other nominees were Xiang Liu (110 m hurdle), Jiaying Pang (swimming) and Wei Yang (gymnastics), all hailing from China.
The MVP awardee is selected by the media covering the games. The journalists have to vote between eight athletes shortlisted by the selection committee constituted by Dagoc, the organising committee, the Olympic Council of Asia and Samsung, the sponsors, who first introduced the award in the 1998 edition.
