Constable`s death: Family dismisses road rage theory
Family of the Delhi Police head constable, who died in a road rage incident in Meerut last week, on Monday alleged he was not killed in the mishap.
New Delhi: Family of the Delhi Police head constable, who died in a road rage incident in Meerut last week, on Monday alleged he was not killed in the mishap and pointed fingers at his two colleagues who were travelling with him at the time of the incident.
Head Constable Sanjeev was shot dead and a Constable suffered bullet injuries when unidentified men opened fire at them in Meerut on May 15 in an incident which Delhi Police described as "road rage".
"We have our doubts. We have filed a complaint with Meerut Police asking them to investigate the role of two policemen who were accompanying Sanjeev at the time of the incident," Kavinder, the brother-in-law of Sanjeev, said. He claimed the family had visited the spot where the incident took place and spoke to locals.
"The locals had told us no violence was reported in the area. So we feel that the policemen who were accompanying him have some role," Kavinder alleged.
A senior Delhi Police official said investigation is on and they are working in tandem with the Meerut Police. Last week, Joint Commissioner of Police Vivek Gogia and other senior officials went to Meerut and met their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh Police.
Gogia had said UP Police and Delhi Police were on the same page in the incident and there was no confusion over it. There were reports that Meerut Police was not buying Delhi Police`s theory that it was a case of road rage.
