Mo Farah breaks 34-year-old British record, dedicates to his hero Muhammad Ali

New Delhi: Tuning up for the 2016 Rio Olympics, Mo Farah on Sunday broke 34-year-old 3,000 metre British record at Birmingham Diamond League.

The reigning 5,000m Olympic champion clocked seven minutes 32.62 seconds to beat Dave Moorcroft's 34-year-old record. And with that he now holds the British records at 1500m, two miles, 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m, as well as half-marathon on the road.

The 33-year-old dedicated the victory to his hero Muhammad Ali, the boxing great who died on Saturday aged 74.

"I just want to wish his family well," the double Olympic champion told BBC Sport. "He was someone I looked up to and someone we've missed. That's for him for sure."
