New Delhi: On Day 9 of Paralympic Games as star Indian club thrower Amit Kumar Saroha, a gold medal winner at the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon, came close to winning bronze at the men's Club Throw F51 final.

The 31-year-old Amit was a national level hockey player until a tragedy struck him at the age of 22. He became quadriplegic due to compression of the spinal cord following a car accident.


But even the unfortunate incident couldn't stop the his courage for pursuing sports.


Earlier, optimistic Indian media celebrated Amit's thow of 26.63 as a medal winning effort but later Slovakian Marian Kureja eclipsed the Indian para-athlete's effort with a throw of 26.82 in his 5th attempt.


India so far have won four medals at the Rio Paralympic Games.
